Vaughan holds on in tournament opener over York Simcoe
The Vaughan Kings open up their 2025 OHL Cup with a 6-4 win over the York Simcoe Express.
After Ben Veitch (1) gave the Express an early one goal lead. The Kings would storm back with goals from Eloan Le Gallic (2), Connor Adam (1), and Gensen Geldart (1) to score four goals in the opening period.
Two goals in the second period from Ryan Murray (1) and Ryerson Edgar (1) brought the Express within one entering the final frame.
Vaughan dug deep in the third, extending their lead after goals from Dylan Nobili (1) and Carter Lewandowski (1G). Defenceman Logan Crump (1) gave the Express their fourth goal late in the third.
With a game high three points for his team Le Gallic spoke about his performance and the importance of opening the tournament with a win saying, “I got a lot of chances, was able to get lucky and put some in. It’s a great start to the tournament, we just have to keep building on it to have success.”
“We’ve been working towards this the whole year, this was our main goal so we’re happy to have the chance to compete here,” said Le Gallic, describing what it means for his group to compete at the OHL Cup.
Vaughan will look to get their second win later tonight as they take on the Toronto Jr. Canadiens at 7:00pm. While York Simcoe will look to get their first win when they play the Sun County Panthers tomorrow morning at 8:15am.
