Sun County defeats Vaughan in tight matchup
Making their first OHL Cup appearance since 2018, the Sun County Panthers defeated the Vaughan Kings 4-3 in a back-and-fourth, high-intensity matchup.
Vaughan’s Carter Kostuch (1) scored an early marker for the Kings, but the Panthers had a quick response as Matteo Vilardi (1), Travis Rivest (1), Dallas Kelly (1) and Kieran McNally (1) all found the back of the net to make it 4-1.
The battle continued as Ewan McChesney (1, 2) netted a pair of unanswered goals for the Kings, but with a scoreless third period, it wouldn’t be enough to secure the comeback.
Receiving BARDOWN Player of the Game honours, Sun County’s Travis Rivest (1) spoke on earning their first win of the showcase. “We went out there and played a strong, physical game. It was tight there at the end but we played hard as a team and got the win.”
The Panthers return to action tomorrow when they gear up against the York-Simcoe Express at 8:30am, while Vaughan prepares for their third matchup of the tournament against the Thunder Bay Kings at 2:15pm.
BARDOWN PLAYER OF THE GAME:
