Steenhuis shutout leads North Stars past Colts
After a scoreless opening period, Sandro Guttaiano (2) broke through to give the North Stars the lead. That lone goal proved enough, as Niagara netminder Reif Steenhuis secured a 16-save shutout.
“It was important for our team to work hard, that’s what we did and we saw success,” said Steenhuis talking about his teams performance. While his team played hard in front him Steenhuis was able to see success playing his game saying, “I just played calm, relaxed but also hard, wanted to keep everything in front of me and save anything I could.”
After winning their wild card play-in game against Oakville to earn a spot in the event, as Steenhuis talked about what it meant to get their first win of the round robin saying, “The biggest tournament of the year, last tournament of minor hockey, we wanted to win. We put it on the line so it felt good to get the win.”
Niagara finishes up their OHL Cup tomorrow afternoon against TPH. While the Colts will wrap things up at 5:30pm against Waterloo.
