Spits stop Senators with complete team effort
Owen Lalonde and Dallas Anderson each had a goal and an assist while goaltender Eric Pillon earned Player of the Game honours in a 4-1 win over the Mississauga Senators.
The win is Windsor’s first at the OHL Cup showcase since 2007, a year where present-day NHL forward Zack Kassian wore the W on his chest.
“That’s quite awhile,” said Lalonde with a laugh following the win. “We deserved this win. We came out with jump in our step and took the play to them. I thought every guy up and down our lineup found a way to help out in some way and that’s what you want.”
Kyle Brothers opened the scoring five minutes into the first period before Blake McConville stretched that lead to two just 24 seconds into the second. Dallas Anderson struck in the opening three minutes of the third with assists from Mitchell Schmidt and Tyler Beneteau before Lalonde added Windsor’s fourth goal on the powerplay at 5:06.
Kevin Paschalis provided Mississauga’s lone goal in the loss as they went .500 on the day, defeating the Kingston Jr. Frontenacs on Wednesday morning.
