Special teams vault Ottawa Valley past Canucks
Special teams came up big for the Ottawa Valley Titans as they secured their first win at the 2025 OHL Cup, defeating the Elgin-Middlesex Canucks.
James Roy (1) opened the scoring with a shorthanded goal in the first period, while Logan Wilson (1) netted a power-play goal late in the second to give the Titans the lead.
“We’ve been working on our special teams a lot in practices and just finding chemistry there. It came up big tonight,” said captain Kaden McGregor speaking about the Titans special teams being a strength for his team. As McGregor also assisted on both Titans goals in the game.
While the first win is always important, McGregor spoke about it just being a start for his group saying, “Everyone wanted to be here from our league, we have the privilege of that but the job’s not done and we want to get a win.”
Forward Chase Griffith (1) scored the lone goal for the Canucks, as goaltender Haydyn Taylor stopped 25 of 27 shots to earn Player of the Game honours for his team.
Ottawa Valley will look to collect their second win tomorrow at 1:30pm when they take on the Toronto Marlboros. Elgin will face the Ajax/Pickering Raiders tomorrow at 10:00am.
