Frasca’s five push Senators into OHL Cup Showcase
In a high-pressure contest, the Mississauga Senators defeated the Ajax-Pickering Raiders 8-2 to return to the OHL Cup Powered by Under Armour for the first time since 2018.
The Senators kept up the momentum as Gabriel Frasca netted five goals, while underager William Moore also had a pair of goals on top of an assist.
“We faced some adversity we haven’t faced in a while. It’s good to learn from it and it’s good to win”, said Frasca. The 16-year-old currently has two older brothers playing in the Ontario Hockey League.
“We played as a team, we got pucks on the net and we capitalized on most of the chances that we got.”
Ranked first in the province, the Senators found themselves in the wild-card game after losing all three of their round-robin playoff matchups. It’s the first time since 2017 that a number one team has had to fight for a play-in spot.
Frasca earned Player of the Game for Mississauga, while Ethan MacDonald scored one of the Raiders two goals, earning the honours for Ajax-Pickering.
The Senators will join the Nash Division alongside the Jr. Canadiens, Hamilton Jr. Bulldogs, Elgin Middlesex Chiefs and TPH.
