Robinson’s 49 saves backstop Brantford to debut victory
The ALLIANCE regular season champion Brantford 99ers made their debut at the OHL Cup Powered by Under Armour, opening the showcase with a win over the North York Rangers.
Brantford jumped out to a 3-0 lead with goals from Tommy Karmiris, Lucas Karmiris, and Jarrett Moriarity. The Rangers responded by applying pressure, peppering shots on goaltender Justin Robinson who made 49 saves on 50 shots earning Player of the Game honours for the 99ers. Defenceman Conor Walton had the lone goal for the Rangers in the game.
After getting the ALLIANCE’s first win at the OHL Cup Powered by Under Armour, Robinson talked about getting off to a good start. “Pretty big win, he said. “Our team came out hard and showed everyone what teams from the ALLIANCE can do.”
Brantford will look to continue their winning ways on Thursday as they take on OMHA finalist Niagara North, while North York will look to rebound from an 0-2 start against the Markham Waxers on Thursday afternoon.
