Rebels ride to 7-3 win over Elite Hockey Group
Five different players had multi-point performances as the Mississauga Rebels took a sure-handed 7-3 win over Elite Hockey Group, improving their record to 2-0 headed into a pair of games on Friday.
Underage forward Jack Hughes scored twice while Anthony Aguanno (1-2–3) and Peter Stratis (1-1–2) made the Rebels’ defence a reliable source of offence with multi-point outputs.
The win came against an Elite Hockey Group squad that featured many players suiting up together for the first time, resulting in Mississauga carrying much of the play throughout the game.
“It’s one of those games where you have the puck on your stick a lot and you try and avoid falling into bad habits,” said Rebels rearguard Peter Stratis. “We don’t want to be taking our foot off the gas or changing our habits just because of a certain score. We have to stay sharp and play with intensity no matter who we are playing against.”
Elite Hockey Group did get on the board, with goals coming from Jake Goldowski, Sam Steele and Mac Wiseman.
The Rebels are 2-0 to start the showcase for the first time since hoisting the OHL Cup back in 2012.
