Rangers hold off late push from Toros to advance to OHL Cup
The North York Rangers topped the Clarington Toros 4-3 in a Wild Card play-in clash to advance to the OHL Cup Powered by Under Armour.
Kevin He scored a pair including the game winner as the Rangers got off to a strong start, applying consistent pressure using their blend of speed and skill to attack the front of the net. Clarington would make a strong third period push with three goals in the final frame but ultimately come up short.
With Clarington’s late push, Kevin He talked about defending the lead late saying, “It felt good to come out with the win. We knew if we stuck to our plan we would be good.”
“We knew they were a good team, we didn’t want to underestimate them.”
The Rangers outshot Clarington 40-20.
After the victory, North York is placed in a tough Subban Division which features the ALLIANCE regular season champion Brantford 99ers, OMHA finalist Niagara North Stars, the second-ranked Toronto Marlboros, and the winner of Wild Card #4 between the Markham Waxers and Toronto Red Wings.
