Peterborough wins physical matchup over Marlboros
Captain Jacob McMahon helped the OMHA Finalist Peterborough Petes secure a 3-1 victory over the Toronto Marlboros Monday morning.
McMahon (1) opened the scoring for the Petes on a beautiful wrist shot in the slot that fired up the Peterborough bench.
“Yeah. I just did what I could and was fortunate that it went in and was fired up when I saw it go in the net.”
The Petes would get their second goal from Kale Mace (1) on a broken play. After a Petes player was on the attack, Malboros goaltender Noah Mavin slid out of position trying to make the save and a defender tried to help him out but Mace found the loose puck and shot it through the defender’s legs to make it 2-1. Peterborough’s final goal was from Rylan Cunningham (1) to give the Petes a 3-1 insurance lead heading into the final frame.
Toronto’s only goal of the game was also the first goal of the contest and was scored by Adam Valentini (1) on a wicked shot that got past Peterborough goaltender Lewis Chatten.
Peterborough’s next game will be at 3:45pm against the Niagara North Stars who earned their way into the Showcase after winning their Wild Card game this morning.
For the Marlboros, they will be back in action at 7:15pm when they take on the London Jr. Knights.
