Offensive explosion powers JRC to OHL Cup berth
With an 8-2 win over Ottawa Myers Automotive, the Toronto Jr. Canadiens punched their ticket to the 2025 OHL Cup.
In a back and forth affair, Myers forward Jack Malandra (1) opened up the scoring five minutes into the first off a pass from Karsten Barbeau. The Jr. Canadiens would then tie and take the lead after goals from Jax Pereira (1)and Camryn Warren (1). Defenceman Dean Sloan (1) would bring Myers back even to knot the game at two a piece.
The Jr. Canadiens would find their offence as they would score six unanswered including five in the third period. With goals coming from Lucas Quain (1), Noah Laus (1), Tyler Bruce (2), and Anthony Carchidi (1).
A top 10 team in the OHL Cup rankings, it means a lot to the JRC to find a way to get the job done and earn their way in. “It’s pretty special for us, especially having to come into this wild card and earn our way into this tournament, I think we did a great job coming together and making things happen today,” said Warren.
After playing up a year with the 2008 born North York Rangers at the 2024 OHL Cup, Warren is looking forward to bringing that experience into this years event. “It was an amazing experience just to go through the whole process with the guys last year and learn a lot from them, I’m excited to be able to take advantage and try and bring those lessons to my team this year,” described Warren.
The Jr. Canadiens will join the Subban Divsion where they will play a familiar opponent in the Vaughan Kings at 7:00pm tonight.
