NOHA holds off push from Flyers for win
Team NOHA picked up their second win of the 2023 OHL Cup with a 5-3 win over the Don Mills Flyers.
With goals from Max Campbell (1), Hudson Chitaroni (1), and Candon O’Neill (1) NOHA jumped out to a 3-0 lead. Shorthanded markers from Jimmy Lombardi (1) and Shamar Moses (3) made it a 3-2 game through two periods of play.
A goal from NOHA’s Deven Jones McDonald (2) extended the lead before Flyers defenceman PJ Fagan (1) would cut the lead to one once again, before NOHA forward Cole Dubowsky (1) scored the insurance marker into an empty net.
NOHA netminder Nathan Maguire was big when called-upon, making 28 saves as his team prevailed despite being outshot 31-21.
“It’s great to see the heart that all our guys have, after battling against each other all year, it’s great to come together and have success,” said Campbell, as it took a full team effort to beat a tough Don Mills team.
NOHA improves to 2-2, being led in scoring by Corey Lacroix (2-1–3) and Deven Jones-McDonald (2-1–3). They await the results of an afternoon clash between Peterborough and the Mississauga Rebels. Don Mills wraps up their OHL Cup with a record of 1-3, with top prospect Shamar Moses (3-2–5) leading the team in scoring with five points.
