Marlboros come back strong, defeat London 4-1
The Toronto Marlboros got in the win column as they beat the London Jr. Knights 4-1, bouncing back from a loss in their opening game of the 2024 OHL Cup.
The Marlboros jumped out to a 2-0 lead with goals from captain Weston Cameron (1) and top prospect Pierce Mbuyi (2). London would pull within one after a goal from forward Manuel Amado (2), but the Marlies would separate themselves with two third period goals from Kayden Brand (1) along with Mbuyi’s second of the night.
With a game high-three points, Mbuyi (2G, 1A) spoke about his team’s bounce back performance, saying, “I think we bounced back from last game. We had a tough start this morning and I think the nerves got the best of us, but tonight we came together, worked as a team and the result shows.”
“I’ve known him for a long time and until this year never had the chance to play with him, he’s obviously a great player, and we’ve clicked ever since he joined this team,” said Mbuyi as he described the chemistry he and linemate Adam Valentini have on the ice, which was highlighted by a gorgeous give and go one-timer goal scored by Mbuyi.
The Marlboros will look to capture their second win of the tournament Tuesday afternoon at 4:45pm as they take on the Niagara North Stars. The Jr. Knights will face Niagara earlier on Tuesday at 10:00am.
