Kings hold off late surge to defeat Cyclones
The Vaughan Kings showcased their offensive depth and composure under pressure, defeating the Upper Canada Cyclones 7–4 in a spirited matchup at the 2025 OHL Cup.
Vaughan wasted no time setting the tone, as Carter Lewandowski (3) opened the scoring 36 seconds into the first period. The Kings doubled their lead minutes later when Nate Feiner (2) found the back of the net, putting Vaughan ahead 2–0 before the Cyclones could settle into the game.
Upper Canada responded late in the opening frame with a goal from Quinn Young (2), cutting the lead in half and giving the Cyclones a spark heading into the intermission.
The second period saw the Kings extend their lead with goals from Lincoln Pinaretta (1) and Dylan Nobili (3), putting Vaughan ahead 4–1. The Cyclones kept pressing, and Carter Beauchesne (2) responded to make it 4–2, but Feiner (3) responded with his second of the game to restore the Kings’ three-goal cushion heading into the third.
Young (3,4) ignited a third-period comeback attempt for the Cyclones, scoring twice in quick succession to complete his hat trick and narrow the gap to 5–4.
With momentum teetering, Vaughan’s Eloan Le Gallic (4,5) delivered the knockout blow, scoring two goals just 15 seconds apart to put the game out of reach for the Cyclones. “It is really cool to score two goals in the last shift,” said Le Gallic. “I just got nice bounces to me.”
The Vaughan Kings end the round robin with a record of 2-2-0, while the Upper Canada Cyclones (0-2-1) have one more game tonight at 5:15 p.m. against the York Simcoe Express (1-2-0).
