Hamilton blanks Waterloo in clash of contenders
After Hamilton goaltender Tanner Sheppard put in a solid performance to earn Player of the Game honours in a win on Tuesday, Matthew Lukic did his part to improve the Jr. Bulldogs to 2-0 in the showcase with a 3-0 blanking of the ALLIANCE Champion Waterloo Wolves.
Lukic quality saves behind a full sixty minute effort from his club as the OMHA Finalists continued to impress at the 2016 OHL Cup. Bobby Harrison’s three-point effort gave them the ammunition they’d need to get by a Waterloo team competing in the showcase for a fourth straight year.
“It feels great,” said a smiling Lukic following the sound of the final buzzer. “It’s great for Tanner (Sheppard) and myself to see these kinds of results in games like this. We try and learn from each other and always want to improve and get better. I think the team in front of us has been great lately so that certainly helps.”
The Bulldogs penalty kill was a perfect 5-for-5 in the victory, braving the storm early in the second period as a string of penalties put them down a man for much of the first half of the frame.
Wesley Weir found the back of the net for the second time in as many games as Hamilton enters a Thursday matchup with Thunder Bay still undefeated.
PLAYER OF THE GAME:
Hamilton – Matthew Lukic (G)
Waterloo – Chris Playfair
