Griffin’s four goals power York-Simcoe to 8-1 win over Thunder Bay
The York-Simcoe Express return to the OHL Cup for a fourth consecutive year, handing the Thunder Bay Kings their first loss of the tournament.
In an explosive performance by the Express, Owen Griffin recorded a four-goal game (1, 2, 3, 4), while Andreas Mikrgiannakis (1, 2), Wesley Royston (1) and Tate Collins (1) also added tallies to the win. Connor Sooley, Owen Meli, Ryan Brown and Eric Senjac proved to be big contributors, each recording a pair of assists for York-Simcoe.
Griffin talked about opening up the tournament with four points in the win saying, “My teammates were setting me up pretty nicely. We played our style and kept it simple throughout the entire game, our teamwork got us the win.”
Mikrgiannakis (1,2) earned BARDOWN Player of the Game honours for the Express, while Easton Mikus took home recognition for the Kings.
The Kings prepares to face the Toronto Jr. Canadiens at 7:00pm, while the Express return to action tomorrow when they gear up against the Sun County Panthers at 8:30am.
