Flyers soar past Niagara North in 6-1 win
In their second game of the tournament, the Don Mills Flyers put on another commanding performance, securing a decisive 6-1 victory over the Niagara North Stars. With back-to-back wins, the Flyers continue to solidify their status as the projected favourites to capture the OHL Cup.
Richard Wang (1) opened the scoring early in the first period, setting the tone for the Flyers. Midway through the frame, Sandro Guttaiano (1) responded for the Stars, evening the score at one heading into the second period.
However, that lone goal would be the closest the Stars would come to closing the gap. Lincoln Edwards (1) put the Flyers back in front early in the second, followed by a quick insurance marker from Caden Bell (3) just seconds later. Evan Nicholson (2) capped off a dominant three-goal period, giving Don Mills firm control of the game.
Lyndon Cabral (3) was named Player of the Game after a standout performance, netting two goals and two assists. Reflecting on the team’s success, Cabral said, “We’re all contributing really well. We’re all hard on the forecheck and doing whatever it takes to win this tournament. I think we’re making the right stretch to get there for sure.”
The Flyers’ relentless offensive attack was on full display, firing 31 shots on goal and bringing their two-game total to 71. Goaltender Noah La Gambina remained steady between the pipes, posting a .958 save percentage across his last two starts.
Both teams will be back in action Tuesday afternoon as they look to build on their OHL Cup campaigns.
