Flyers soar into Semi-Finals with 5-2 victory
In a high-stakes Quarter-Final matchup at the 2025 OHL Cup, the Don Mills Flyers punched their ticket to the Semi-Finals with a 5-2 victory over the Huron-Perth Lakers.
Both teams entered the contest with impressive round-robin records, Don Mills at 3-1-0 and Huron-Perth slightly edging them with a 3-0-1 finish. But it was the Flyers who took control when it mattered most.
Lincoln Edwards (3) opened the scoring in the first period, giving Don Mills the early edge. Huron-Perth responded later in the frame with a powerplay goal from Matthew Henderson (1) to tie the game at 1-1.
The Flyers dominated the second period, taking control of the game. Lincoln Cumming (2) scored his second goal of the tournament, securing the lead for the Flyers. Moments later, Edwards (4) struck again, this time on a power play, netting his fourth tournament goal. The momentum continued as Evan Nicholson (3) added another power-play goal, stretching the Flyers’ lead to 4-1 by the end of the period.
Kane Barch (2) gave the Lakers a glimmer of hope with a third-period goal, but Richard Wang (2) sealed the deal with an empty-netter to cap off the Flyers’ statement win.
Lakers goalie Vaughn Barr saved 35 out of 39 shots.
Caden Bell was named Player of the Game for the Flyers, contributing two key assists. “The first goals really set the tone of the game, and from there, our hard work paid off,” Bell said post-game. “And, yeah, I think that made us win.”
The Don Mills Flyers now set their sights on the Semi-Finals, where they will face off against the Toronto Titans tonight at 6 p.m. “Tonight’s a big game,” added Bell. “It’s do or die, so we must work even harder.”
