Flyers move on to Quarter-Finals with win over Wolves
The Don Mills Flyers rebounded with a 4-1 win over the Waterloo Wolves to advance to the quarterfinals at the OHL Cup.
Waterloo forward Emre Alves (1) opened the scoring a minute into the game to give the Wolves a 1-0 lead. However, Don Mills would answered back quickly with a goal from Lincoln Edwards (2).
The game would remain tied at one until Lincoln Cumming (1) scored a highlight reel short handed goal to give the Flyers the lead. “I got some space and went in on the 1 on 2, after that I just entered a flow state kind of blacked out from there and did whatever I could to score,” said Cumming describing his goal.
Tyler Lee (1) and Andy Huang (1) would add to the Flyers lead as Don Mills provided a strong bounce back performance.
While the Flyers have seen a great deal of success in their minor hockey careers, but advancing is still incredibly meaningful for Cumming and his teammates saying, “It’s pretty meaningful, we’re all grateful to come this far. We’ve been working for about seven years to get to this point. It should be a fun game in the quarterfinals.”
Don Mills will player either the Huron Perth Lakers or Detroit Little Caesars in Quarterfinal 3 tomorrow morning at 10:30am. Waterloo wraps the tournament later on today 5:30pm against the Barrie Colts.
