Flyers come through in must win game
The Don Mills Flyers were a mixed bag throughout the OHL Cup showcase, scoring 12 goals through their first two games before being silenced by the Barrie Jr. Colts in a 4-0 loss on Thursday. The black and orange came through when it mattered most on Friday though, defeating the Mississauga Rebels 4-2 to secure a spot in the OHL Cup Quarter-Finals.
Flyers’ Player of the Game Wyllum Deveaux had a big afternoon, scoring twice and adding an assist.
“We came into this game knowing our season was on the line,” said the 6’2″, 190Ib. forward. “The Rebels are a great team, we competed against them all season, but we came together as a team today and out-competed them, even showing character late in the game when they really started to push back on us.”
Deveaux, Jayden Vaughan and Declan Chisholm gave Don Mills a 3-0 lead before early third period Rebels goals from James Fletcher and Thomas Maia cut the lead to one. Deveaux added his second of the afternoon at 10:43 to give the Flyers some insurance.
Don Mills goaltender Matthew Mayhew provided some big saves in the third period to help the Flyers clinch first place in the Shanahan Division with a 3-1-0 record.
Both teams advance to Saturday’s OHL Cup Quarter-Finals.
