Flyers blank Colts with final frame markers
The Don Mills Flyers kicked off their OHL Cup campaign with a dominant 4-0 round-robin victory over the Barrie Jr. Colts.
While the Flyers controlled the game from the start, their offensive breakthrough came in the final frame, when they scored four unanswered goals.
Defenceman Caden Bell (2), named Player of the Game for the Flyers, played a pivotal role in their success, scoring twice and adding an assist. “Our teamwork really clicked, and that helped us get scoring chances; I feel like that really helped us win,” Bell said.
That teamwork was evident as the Flyers outshot the Colts 40-9. Despite the lopsided shot total, Barrie goaltender Sebastien Morden (36 SV) put in a stellar performance, earning Player of the Game honours for his club.
Lyndon Cabral (1) contributed a goal and an assist, while Evan Nicholson (1) added another tally. Goaltender Noah La Gambina turned aside all nine shots he faced, securing the second shutout of the tournament.
Looking ahead, Bell emphasized the significance of starting strong. “The first game is really important, especially beating a team like Barrie. I think this will really help our momentum moving forward.”
The Don Mill Flyers will return to action tonight against the newest addition to the Nash division, the Niagara North Stars, while the Barrie Jr. Colts get the night off before taking on TPH Hockey in the morning.
