Express close out tournament with 2-1 win over Panthers
The Wild Card entry York-Simcoe Express opened Day 3 action with their first win of the tournament, defeating the Sun County Panthers 2-1.
Jackson Halloran (1) initiated the scoring for York-Simcoe, followed by Bryson Morgan (1), extending the Express’ lead to 2-0. In a late surge, Sun County’s Wyatt Goudie (1) found the net with less than a minute remaining in regulation to narrow the margin, but the Express held firm, clinching a 2-1 victory.
York-Simcoe captain and Player of the Game Morgan (1) spoke on his team’s performance and playing in the OHL Cup, “I think we came out and played pretty well this morning after a slow start to the tournament. Playing in the OHL Cup has been a great experience, it’s been special to share it with this group.”
Sun County netminder Brock Devlin took home Player of the Game honours for the Panthers, stopping 27 of the 29 shots he faced.
York-Simcoe wraps up their Round Robin play with a record of 1-3, being led offensively by Jackson Halloran (2-0-2) and Bryson Morgan (1-1-2). Sun County will return to action at 3:45pm as they take on the GTHL champion Vaughan Kings.
