Courville earns 33-save shutout in TPH win
TPH Hockey blanked the Waterloo Wolves 3-0 in their opening midday matchup of the OHL Cup. The team displayed a steady offensive effort, scoring once in the second period and twice in the final frame.
Liam Young (1) opened the scoring midway through the game, giving TPH the lead heading into the third period. In the final frame, Norman Greene (1) extended the lead to two, followed by an insurance marker from Benjamin Collins in the closing minutes.
TPH goaltender Mason Courville was the backbone of the win, stopping all 33 shots he faced to earn the third shutout of the tournament and Player of the Game honours.
“Well, on and off the ice, I thought we were definitely working as a team from the start,” Courville said. “We don’t really know each other that much, so we had to get the chemistry in early here. I thought we were just physical out there, got pucks in deep, and capitalized on opportunities.” Despite outshooting TPH 33-26, the Wolves couldn’t find a way past Courville’s stellar goaltending.
Looking ahead, both teams have the rest of the night off, but will be back in action tomorrow morning.
