Competition continues for Delisle family in OHL Cup and OHL Playoffs
The Ontario Hockey League remains the premier pathway to hockey success, serving as the world’s top junior development league for players and families alike.
With the 2025 OHL Priority Selection approaching, many young talents are getting a first-hand look at what the OHL has to offer through the 2025 OHL Cup hosted by the Greater Toronto Hockey League, which is underway this week.
Max Delisle has been dominant in the tournament, helping the GTHL’s Toronto Titans clinch the Shanahan Division with a perfect 4-0 record. In four OHL Cup appearances, the 15-year-old forward from St. Andrews West, Ont., has recorded three goals, one assist, along with a +5 rating, and 20 shots on goal.
The importance of the OHL Cup as a stepping stone is clear to the Delisle family as his older brother, Tristan Delisle, also competed in the event with the Mississauga Rebels before being selected in the third round (51st overall) by the Oshawa Generals in the 2023 OHL Priority Selection.
“It’s amazing to see him play and succeed, and to now find myself in the same position that he was in a couple years ago. He’s helped me a ton, pushing me to be my best and making me a much better player on and off the ice. Watching him go through this process showed me what it takes to succeed, and I’ve been able to apply that to my own game”, said Max.
Now in his second OHL season, older brother Tristan has recorded 55 points (18-37-55) in 126 regular season games with the Generals and Owen Sound Attack. The 17-year-old centreman also contributed two assists in the 2024 OHL Playoffs, helping Oshawa secure the Eastern Conference title and reach the OHL Championship Series. Tristan played parts of two seasons with Oshawa before being traded to the Attack in the blockbuster Colby Barlow deal at the start of the 2024-25 season.
The two brothers come from OHL roots. Their father, Miguel Delisle starred with the Ottawa 67’s, Owen Sound Attack and Kingston Frontenacs over five seasons from 1998-2003. He won the J. Ross Robertson Cup with Ottawa in 2000-01 before returning the next season to score 55 goals.
As Tristan prepares for Round 1 of the 2025 OHL Playoffs against the London Knights on Thursday night at 7:00pm, the Delisle family remains locked into high-stakes competition as Max also advances to the next stage of the OHL Cup, set to face the Sun County Panthers in Quarter-Final action tomorrow at 10:00am.
