Barrie ends Whitby’s undefeated start in comeback fashion
Ethen Fines (2) and Owen Bruining (1) scored third period goals just over a minute apart as the Barrie Colts ended Whitby’s undefeated start to the 2023 OHL Cup, taking a 2-1 decision on Thursday afternoon.
Jacob Mercer-Harper made 16 saves as Barrie completed the third period comeback, improving to 2-1 in the showcase.
Netting the game-winner, Bruining spoke on the Colts performance saying, “We came out a bit slow at the start and took some unnecessary penalties, but we turned things around later in the third and worked together as a team.”
“Scoring the game-winning goal gave me the chills. It’s great to have one, it was a team effort.”
Evan Elliott netted Whiby’s lone marker of the game.
Barrie will face off against the Southern Tier Admirals on Friday at 1:15 pm, while Whitby will play the London Jr. Knights Friday at 4:45 pm.
