Addy’s hat-trick leads JRC past Vaughan
Nico Addy had a second period natural hat trick for the Toronto Jr. Canadiens as they opened their 2023 OHL Cup with a 5-1 win over the Vaughan Kings.
After Jake O’Brien (1G) opened the scoring for the Jr. Canadiens, Ivan Galiyanov would tie the game at one with Vaughan’s lone goal. JRC found their offence in the second period scoring four unanswered, with Luca Morano (1G) scoring alongside Addy’s three goals in the contest.
“Overall we played well defensively, offensively, capitalized on our chances, and it was good to come out with the win,” said Addy discussing the opening victory.
Addy, a top prospect for the 2023 OHL Priority Selection has played in some big games, notably as a member of Team Ontario in the Canada Winter Games. He talked about the big stage for him and his team, “It’s a big showcase, but we don’t treat it differently from any other game. In the end we’ll play our game and look for the win.”
The Jr. Canadiens take on the Thunder Bay Kings at 7:00pm later today. While Vaughan will look to bounce back as they face the Sun County Panthers at 5:15pm.
