Ottawa Valley top line leads Titans past Canucks for first win
The Titans top line of Braydon Lindsay, Carter Stevens, and Jordan Perrier combined for eight points in a back and forth affair as Ottawa Valley topped Elgin-Middlesex 3-2 to capture their first win of the 2024 OHL Cup presented by FPS Payment.
Lindsay (1) opened up the scoring for Ottawa Valley just 32 seconds into the game. Elgin’s Austin Brekelmans (3) would respond with a shot from the left circle on the power play. The Titans top line would strike back before the end of the period as they combined on a goal from Perrier (1) to give the Titans the 2-1 lead heading to the second.
Brekelmans would once again tie the game for the Canucks as he scored off a beautiful pass from top prospect Parker Vaughan on the power play. Ottawa Valley would pull away for good this time, as captain Carter Stevens (3) scored his third of the tournament followed by a goal from Jackson Legault (1). Elgin pulled back within one after a goal from Cole Edmunson (2) with just over 30 seconds left in the game, but Titans goalie Kale Osipenko was able to hold the Canucks off in the final seconds of regulation.
With the top line for the Titans being so dangerous, Stevens spoke about the chemistry they have, saying “We’ve been going really well since the playoffs started, we’ve been able to have that strong connection and obviously it’s carried over so far in the tournament.
It’s good to showcase the talent we have in Ottawa, obviously it’s been a while since Ottawa team’s have been here so it’s good to show our elite players and that we can compete with the best from anywhere,” said Stevens, as he highlighted the meaningfulness of Ottawa teams being a part of the OHL Cup, as this is the first time since 2017 teams from the HEO have taken part in the showcase.
Ottawa Valley will have a tough test in their third game of the tournament as they face the Barrie Jr. Colts this afternoon at 3:00pm. Elgin’s next action will be Wednesday morning at 10:00am as they take on Barrie.
