Kevin Reinhart\u2019s journey following his Ontario Hockey League career has been defined by education, adaptability, and success beyond the game.<\/span><\/p>\n

After his time in the OHL, Reinhart continued playing hockey at the university level after being selected by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the eighth round (132nd overall) of the 1978 NHL Amateur Draft. While his playing days eventually came to an end, the experiences and perspective he gained through the game helped shape a successful professional career that followed.<\/span><\/p>\n

Now retired, he remains chairman of a public company\u2019s board, where he continues to stay involved in the oil and gas equipment manufacturing industry.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

From the Ice to Industry<\/b><\/p>\n

Following the OHL, Reinhart attended Wilfrid Laurier University during his final year of junior hockey before transferring to Saint Mary’s University for his final three years, where he earned a Commerce degree with a major in Accounting.<\/span><\/p>\n

That transition from hockey to academics helped prepare him for a successful career in the global business world, where he was exposed to different cultures, industries, and leadership opportunities.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

A Student of the Game and Beyond<\/b><\/p>\n

Reinhart\u2019s time in the OHL played a major role in shaping both his personal and professional development.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cValue of teamwork; time management (especially taking a full load first year at WLU while playing for the Rangers); how to play my role on a high-performing team; dealing with adversity.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Those lessons stayed with him throughout his business career and continue to influence the way he approaches life today.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Shaped by the Game<\/b><\/p>\n

For Reinhart, one of the most important realizations during his hockey career came at a young age when he understood his path might look different than originally expected.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cDealing with the reality at 16 years of age that I was not good enough to achieve my hockey dream (even more difficult given that my younger brother, Paul Reinhart, was a key factor in that reality check) AND then finding that I could define and pursue another dream that was even more rewarding and exciting.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

That perspective ultimately helped Reinhart embrace new goals and opportunities outside of hockey.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

A Memorable Moment<\/b><\/p>\n

\u201cFor the most part, it was the camaraderie and dynamics of playing with a group of like-minded guys that were always changing, even though I didn’t always recognize and appreciate that. If I had to pick one memory, though, it would have been when I played my first game in Kitchener as a 16-year-old, blocking a Marcel Dionne shot on a 2-on-1.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

An Enduring Influence<\/b><\/p>\n

Reinhart points to two teammates who left a lasting impact on his OHL experience.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI would point to my two best friends on the team – my brother Paul and Don Maloney.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Life Today<\/b><\/p>\n

Today, Reinhart is most proud of his success in the business world and the opportunities it has provided him worldwide.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe success I’ve had in the business world while being exposed to many cultures and people while working in a global organization, including with\/for a Chinese government-owned enterprise for over two years.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Away from work, he enjoys golfing, cycling, and travelling, while spending time with his growing family.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI have three wonderful adult children who have blessed us with six grandchildren who are currently between the ages of 1.5 and 5.5 years. Being a grandfather allows me to experience these young children in a very different way than I could while raising my children, when I was also trying to build my career and financial stability.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Advice for the Next Generation<\/b><\/p>\n

\u201cPursue your hockey dream with all your vigour, but make sure you get an education as the odds of making the ‘bigs’ are low and, for most that do make it, your lifespan is not long enough to set you up for life. TORONTO<\/strong> \u2013 The Ontario Hockey League (OHL) today announced that two-game packs for the Seaway Shootout are now on sale<\/a><\/strong>, offering fans a chance to take in both nights of OHL action at the Cornwall Civic Complex while saving 20 percent compared to the cost of individual game tickets.<\/p>\n

The two-game pack secures a seat for both regular season matchups of the Seaway Shootout weekend, featuring the Brampton Steelheads against two Eastern Conference opponents \u2014 the Ottawa 67’s on Friday, Oct. 16 and the Kingston Frontenacs on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2026. Both games are scheduled for a 7 p.m. puck drop at the Ed Lumley Arena.<\/p>\n

The Seaway Shootout marks the return of regular season OHL hockey to Cornwall for the first time in decades, bringing major junior action back to a community with deep roots in the game. The historic Cornwall Civic Complex previously served as home to the Cornwall Royals, who captured three Memorial Cup titles during their major junior era and developed legends of the game including Dale Hawerchuk, Doug Gilmour and Marc Crawford.<\/p>\n

The weekend will also feature a slate of community events, including a free public open skate and Seaway Hockey Day at the Benson Centre.<\/p>\n

Buffalo, N.Y. \u2013<\/strong> The Ontario Hockey League (OHL) is proud to announce that 47 OHL players were selected across the seven rounds of the 2026 NHL Draft, held at KeyBank Center in Buffalo, New York. The total sits one shy of the League’s modern-era record of 48, set in 2012 and 2016, and led all leagues at this year’s draft.<\/p>\n

The 47 OHL players represent 20.9 per cent of all selections in the 2026 NHL Draft \u2014 the League’s highest share since 2016. The group includes a draft-leading seven players chosen in the opening round, part of a Canadian Hockey League (CHL) total of 16 first-round selections.<\/p>\n

The OHL’s 47 selections were part of a CHL total of 106 players chosen \u2014 the most the CHL has produced at a single NHL Draft in 16 years, and the first time it has reached triple digits since 2013. The Western Hockey League (WHL) produced 39 selections, while the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) developed 20.<\/p>\n

Caleb Malhotra<\/strong> led the way for the OHL, going 3rd overall to the Vancouver Canucks to become the highest-drafted player in Brantford Bulldogs club history. He was joined in the first round by Soo Greyhounds defenceman Chase Reid<\/strong> (7th overall, Seattle Kraken) and Saginaw Spirit forward Nikita Klepov<\/strong> (15th overall, Anaheim Ducks), among the seven OHL players chosen on Friday night.<\/p>\n

The Ottawa 67’s led all OHL clubs by developing five selections, the most the franchise has produced in a single draft since 1999. The Guelph Storm, London Knights, Saginaw Spirit and Soo Greyhounds followed by developing four selections apiece.<\/p>\n

The Knights extended their active streak of players selected at the NHL Draft to a CHL-leading 58 years while the 67’s (24 years), Greyhounds (20 years) and Spirit (19 years) extended double-digit streaks of their own.<\/p>\n

By position, the 47 OHL players consisted of 28 forwards, 15 defencemen and four goaltenders. The four netminders mark the most OHL goaltenders chosen by NHL clubs since 2016.<\/p>\n

In terms of birth year, 28 of the 47 players selected were born in 2008, while 10 were late-2007-born players in their first year of draft eligibility. A further three were 2007-born players in their second year of eligibility (Mondoux, Shurygin, Minchak), and six were born in 2006 (Wilmott, Barabanov, von Richter, Anderson, Kostov, Kuhta).<\/p>\n

A total of 27 of the NHL’s 32 clubs added at least one OHL player. The Vancouver Canucks, Seattle Kraken, Ottawa Senators, New York Rangers and Los Angeles Kings each led the way with three OHL selections.<\/p>\n

Of note, North Bay Battalion defenceman Alexander Karmanov<\/strong> was selected in the seventh round, 201st overall, by the San Jose Sharks. Standing 7-foot-1, Karmanov becomes the tallest player ever chosen in the history of the NHL Draft.<\/p>\n

An additional five players committed to the OHL for the 2026-27 season heard their names called, including goaltender Brady Knowling<\/strong> (Saginaw Spirit), chosen in the fourth round by the San Jose Sharks; forward Simon Katolicky<\/strong> (Sarnia Sting), taken in the fifth round by the Calgary Flames; forward Lucian Bernat<\/strong> (Owen Sound Attack), drafted in the sixth round by the Vancouver Canucks; forward Charlie Puglisi<\/strong> (Kitchener Rangers), selected in the seventh round by the Nashville Predators and defenceman Jean-Samuel Daigneault<\/strong> (Brantford Bulldogs) chosen in the seventh round by the Montreal Canadiens.<\/p>\n

Following the 2026 NHL Draft, the OHL has developed a total of 2,685 NHL Draft picks since 1969, representing approximately 20.5 per cent of all players chosen.<\/span><\/p>\n
