Erie, Pennsylvania – <\/strong>It has been a very busy offseason already in the Flagship City and the Otters have made another move to solidify their blue line.<\/p>\n

General Manager\u00a0Dave Brown\u00a0<\/strong>and Director of Hockey Operations\u00a0Scott Grieve\u00a0<\/strong>announced today that defenseman\u00a0Broden McArthur\u00a0<\/strong>has been signed to an OHL Scholarship and Development Agreement.<\/p>\n

McArthur, a native of San Antonio, was selected by the Otters in the fifth round of the 2025 OHL Priority Selection, 99th overall.<\/p>\n

“I couldn’t be more excited to be joining one of the premier organizations in the Canadian Hockey League,”\u00a0McArthur\u00a0<\/strong>said. “From the moment the opportunity to become part of the Erie Otters organization presented itself, I knew it was the right fit for my development.”<\/p>\n

The 6’0, 2009-born defenseman spent last season with the United States National Team Development Program, where with his U17 team in league play he posted 13 (3G+10A) points in 55 games. In 37 USHL games with the USNTDP, he collected seven points (2G+7A).<\/p>\n

McArthur is committed to the University of Minnesota where he hopes to make an impact following his time in the OHL.<\/p>\n

He is noted as a dynamic defenseman with the ability to make plays offensively and can really shine on the power play. An excellent skater who is quick to turn defense into attack, McArthur is an exciting player who will look to make a big impact for the Otters.<\/p>\n

Otters’ General Manager Dave Brown<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong>spoke with excitement about the addition of McArthur and what he will bring to the organization.<\/p>\n

Selected 60th overall by Toronto in the 2026 NHL Draft, Alexander Bilecki established himself as a dependable top-four defenceman on Kitchener’s Memorial Cup championship team. The hometown product is known for his strong puck-moving ability and confidence carrying the puck through the neutral zone. He doubled his offensive production in 2025-26, recording 29 points (9-20\u201329) in 66 regular-season games before adding three assists during Kitchener’s championship run.<\/span><\/p>\n

Acquired by the Guelph Storm at the end of December, Tyler Hopkins led the Kingston Frontenacs in scoring at the time of the trade. Between Kingston and Guelph, the 6-foot-1 forward finished one point shy of his career high, recording 50 points (25-25\u201350) in 56 regular-season games. He also served as an alternate captain for both clubs.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Ben Danford enjoyed a memorable season after being acquired by the Brantford Bulldogs early in the year. The 6-foot-2 defenceman recorded a combined 20 points (3-17\u201320), represented Team Canada at the 2026 IIHF World Junior Championship, and joined the Marlies during the third round of the Calder Cup Playoffs, helping Toronto capture the 2026 Calder Cup.<\/span><\/p>\n

Acquired by the Barber Poles in December, Sam McCue joined Ottawa after beginning the season with the Brantford Bulldogs, where he recorded 16 points (10-6\u201316) in 25 games. He went on to contribute 15 points (7-8\u201315) with the 67\u2019s, highlighted by a Michigan-style goal in April. The Sudbury, ON., native is committed to Bowling Green State University for the 2026-27 season.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In his rookie professional season, Sim split time between the Marlies and the ECHL’s Cincinnati Cyclones. He appeared in 12 Calder Cup Playoff games, recording three points, including a goal in the championship-clinching game.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

BRANTFORD, ONTARIO. <\/strong>Brantford Bulldogs President of Hockey Operations Spencer Hyman & Head Coach Michael Babcock today announced the hiring of Mike Lysyj as Associate Coach.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Lysyj, from Hillsborough, NJ, brings experience at each of the collegiate, junior and professional ranks to Brantford. Beginning his coaching career in the 2014, Lysyj spent 4 seasons as an assistant coach at SUNY-Fredonia before moving to RPI as an assistant coach for the 2018-19 season. Lysyj moved to the Canadian junior ranks for the first time in the 2019-20 season, serving as an assistant coach for the WHL\u2019s Everett Silvertips. Returning stateside in 2020, Lysyj took on the role as assistant coach for the USHL\u2019s Des Moines Buccaneers. Lysyj\u2019s first stay in the USHL earned him his first nod as a head coach with the NAHL\u2019s Corpus Christi IceRays. Lysyj moved back to the USHL ranks in the 2022-23 season serving as assistant & then associate head coach with the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders for three seasons. Lysyj\u2019s talents were brought to the professional level for the 2025-26 season as he joined the ECHL bench of the Iowa Heartlanders as associate head coach, earning tremendous reviews from his players at every stop.<\/p>\n

Lysyj\u2019s coaching experience is influcened from his playing experience that saw the Bulldogs new associate coach suit up for a pair of impactful American programs, first the New Jersey Rockets and then the South Shore Kings. The New Jersey native used his hockey talents as part of a four-year run with SUNY-Courtland where he earned a Bachelor\u2019s Degeree in Kineseology followed by a Master\u2019s in Sports Management while coaching at SUNY-Fredonia. Lysyj skated at the pro level for Peoria Rivermen and Mississippi Surge of SPHL and the Orlando Solar Bears of the ECHL.<\/p>\n

The Barrie Colts have announced that the club has signed forward Ben Lombardi to a standard Ontario Hockey League player agreement, adding another American prospect to the organization’s growing pipeline south of the border.<\/p>\n

Lombardi, a 5-foot-11, 194-pound forward who shoots right, joins the Colts out of Brunswick School in Greenwich, Connecticut, where he wrapped up his most recent season in the USHS-Prep ranks. Born March 24, 2008, the 18-year-old brings size, skill and a strong game to the Barrie lineup.<\/p>\n

\n

“Ben’s someone our staff has liked for a while,” said Colts General Manager Marty Williamson<\/em><\/strong>. “He’s a competitive kid who’s put together a strong body of work at Brunswick, and we think there’s a lot of untapped upside in his game as he steps into the OHL.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Lombardi’s move to Barrie also comes with a familiar face already in the room. He and Colts forward Joe Salandra<\/strong><\/em> grew up playing together within the Mid Fairfield Rangers<\/strong> program in Connecticut before both went on to star at Brunswick School<\/strong> \u2014 a shared background the organization expects will help ease Lombardi’s transition into the Barrie dressing room.<\/p>\n

A physical, north-south forward, Lombardi’s game is centred on strong puck protection and a willingness to work the inside of the ice \u2014 traits that scouts believe should translate well to the pace and structure of Ontario Hockey League play.<\/p>\n

He also earned the CHL\u2019s Sportsman of the Year and the OHL\u2019s Most Sportsmanlike Player. NORTH BAY, ON. \u2013<\/b> The North Bay Battalion have announced the signing of goaltender Owen Loftus to an OHL Scholarship and Development Agreement.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Battalion took Loftus of the Don Mills Flyers U16 AAA at No. 11 in the Priority Selection, held June 12-13 at Kingston\u2019s Slush Puppie Place. In 50 games last season, Loftus posted a 2.00 goals-against average with nine shutouts and a record of 25-15-10. The Toronto resident, who’s six-foot-one and 163 pounds, turned 16 on April 29.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI think the team’s got a really good development plan for me,\u201d said Loftus. \u201cI’m obviously going to do my best, and ice time’s not something that I know, right? It’s something that’ll just come from the work I do. Obviously, I have a lot of trust in this organization to be making the best development decisions for me.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Loftus, a pianist who played at Carnegie Hall in New York City at 13, said he’s in a good spot with the depth of goaltending experience and expertise within the Battalion staff.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cOne thing that really stood out to me coming to this organization is the goalie knowledge they have, and I can say probably a lot of teams don’t have this similar pedigree with goalies coming in and the staff that they have, like the knowledge,\u201d Loftus said. \u201cI was just talking with (Adam) Dennis before we came. We were just chatting about it. Ottawa 67’s forward Filip Ekberg and London Knights defenceman Linus Funck have been named to Sweden’s roster for the 2026 World Junior Summer Showcase, taking place July 26 to Aug. 1 in Windsor, Ont.<\/p>\n

The annual event serves as the opening evaluation camp ahead of the 2027 IIHF World Junior Championship in Alberta, with Sweden joining Canada, Finland and the United States for a five-game schedule.<\/p>\n

Ekberg returns to the international stage following another productive season with the 67’s. The 19-year-old from Uppsala, Sweden recorded 24 goals and 22 assists for 46 points in 59 games during the 2025-26 campaign and has totalled 91 points (46-45-91) in 112 career OHL games. He also starred for Sweden at the 2025 IIHF U18 World Championship, leading the tournament with 10 goals while recording 18 points in seven games.<\/p>\n

Funck earns the call after a strong first season with the defending Memorial Cup champion London Knights. Selected by London in the first round (58th overall) of the 2025 CHL Import Draft, the 6-foot-3 defenceman recorded four goals and 18 assists for 22 points in 65 regular season games before adding a goal in three playoff appearances. The Lule\u00e5, Sweden native was also selected by the Colorado Avalanche in the fourth round (118th overall) of the 2025 NHL Draft.<\/p>\n

Nine players selected in the 2026 OHL Priority Selection have been named to the United States roster for the 2026 Under-17 Four Nations Tournament, scheduled for Aug. 15-19 in Chomutov, Czechia.<\/p>\n

The 20-player roster was announced Friday by USA Hockey following this week’s Boys National 16 Player Development Camp in Amherst, N.Y. The United States will face Czechia, Slovakia and Switzerland in the annual international event.<\/p>\n
