Williams’ 37th win a new Otters single-season record
Sunday February 28, 2016
Erie Otters goaltender Devin Williams continued re-writing the record books on Sunday afternoon.
A week after becoming the fifth goaltender in OHL history to record 100 career victories, Williams forged a new Otters single-season mark for wins by a goaltender, making 17 saves in his 37th of the season in a 2-1 triumph over the Niagara IceDogs on Sportsnet.
Williams surpasses Ramis Sadikov’s 2010-11 total of 36 victories, marking the second time this season he’s established a new franchise wins mark after he became the winningest goaltender in Otters history back on October 28th in Owen Sound.
Looking ahead, Williams is just two games shy of surpassing Josh Disher’s (2003-06) franchise mark of 168 games played by an Otters goaltender. Having recorded his ninth career shutout on Friday, Williams is just one away from J.F. Perras’ (1998-2001) Otters record of 10.
Williams currently leads the OHL in wins (37), goals-against average (2.19) and save percentage (.921) this season.
The 20-year-old native of Saginaw, MI, has amassed a career record of 102-43-4-4 with a 3.01 goals-against average and a .901 save percentage with nine shutouts over 167 career regular season contests.
