Tuesday September 23, 2014
The Kitchener Rangers Hockey Club proudly introduced Liam Maaskant as the captain for the 2014-15 season on Tuesday, in advance of the team’s season opener on September 24.
The overage defenceman joined the Rangers for his final Ontario Hockey League season in an off-season trade with the Barrie Colts. A native of nearby Clinton, ON, Maaskant has appeared in 130 regular season games with the Colts and Erie Otters, recording seven goals, eleven assists and 145 penalty minutes. He added two assists and 26 penalty minutes in the Colts’ playoff run last season.
“Liam has come in and from Day One has demonstrated strong leadership skills, both on and off the ice,” says Head Coach Troy Smith.
“His exemplary work ethic and positive attitude, along with his experience in the OHL, has provided our staff the confidence to name him team captain.”
In addition, the Rangers have named forwards Justin Bailey, Brent Pedersen and Curtis Meighan as assistant captains for the upcoming season.
Maaskant will lead the Rangers into Owen Sound for the first game of the 2014-15 season on Wednesday at 7:00pm. The team returns to The Aud for the 52nd season opener on Friday, September 26 against the Attack.
