Robbie Lawrance put the 67’s on the board with his first of the playoffs in the first period.
Game 3 – London Knights 5, Ottawa 67’s 4
In Ottawa, captain Danny Syvret scored the winning goal early in the third period to lift the London Knights to a 5-4 win over the 67’s in Game 3 of the SportChek OHL Championship Series on Tuesday.
Syvret cruised across the blueline and blasted a slapshot over the glove hand of Ottawa goaltender Danny Battochio for the game-winner that gave London a 2-1 lead in the series. Game 4 is Thursday in Ottawa.
“I shot it through (the defenceman) and luckily it went in the net,” Syvret explained after the game. “This game was very important. This was a tough win for us – I’m glad we came out with the win.”
David Bolland scored two goals and added an assist and Jordan Foreman and Corey Perry also scored in the win.
“I don’t think we played our best game tonight,” said Bolland, who has scored nine goals in the playoffs. “I think we got a lucky one here tonight and we need to come out harder for the next game. We need to play the way the London Knights can play and the way (coach) Dale Hunter wants us to play.”
Mark Mancari scored two goals for the second straight game for the 67’s, who lost for the first time this year on home ice in the playoffs. Chris Hulit and Julian Talbot also scored and Brad Staubitz and Bryan Bickell each chipped in with two assists.
“They played careful – they do it well,” said Ottawa coach Brian Kilrea. “You have to give their defence credit for taking away the second shot and then moving the puck up the ice. I don’t think we worked as hard as we did on Sunday.”
Game 2 – Ottawa 67’s 6, London Knights 3
In London, Mark Mancari scored two goals to help the Ottawa 67’s to a 6-3 win over the London Knights on Sunday to even the SportChek OHL Championship Series at one game each. The series moves to the nation’s captial for the next two games on Tuesday and Thursday (Rogers TV).
Mancari, a London native, opened the scoring on a powerplay 5:03 into the first period. It was the first of three powerplay goals for the 67’s, who were three-for-10 with the man advantage.
“We knew that if we came out and worked hard and stayed out of the penalty box then we had a chance to beat these guys,” Mancari said. “A lot of people underestimated us coming into the sixth spot. All we’re thinking about is being champions.”

Jeremy Akeson scored in the second period and Brad Bonello scored the first of four Ottawa goals in a little more than five minutes to start the third period. Lukas Kaspar and Brad Staubitz also scored and Jakub Petruzalek chipped in with two assists.
“That was huge for us,” said 67’s coach Brian Kilrea. “Whatever the guys talked about in the room (in the second intermission) – they seemed like a different team in the third.”
Ottawa goaltender Danny Battochio turned aside 42 shots, including several early in the first period that kept the Knights off the scoreboard.
“Everyone on our team knows that we’re here because of him,” said Kilrea.
David Bolland, Marc Methot and Danny Syvret scored in the second period for the Knights, who lost for the first time on home ice since December 12.
“I think we’re going to regroup and play our game (on Tuesday),” said Knights’ forward Danny Fritsche, who was the third star after picking up an assist in the loss. “They did a good job of capitalizing. We have good character guys in the room and I don’t think we should have any problem facing this adversity.”
Game 1 – London Knights 4, Ottawa 67’s 2
In London, OHL scoring leader Corey Perry scored a goal and two assists to help the Knights double the Ottawa 67’s 4-2 in the opening game of the 2005 SportChek OHL Championship Series on Friday.
Game 2 is Sunday at the John Labatt Centre (2:00 p.m. on Rogers TV) before the series moves to the nation’s capital on Tuesday for the first of two games.
Perry, who was named the OHL’s most outstanding player on Wednesday, opened the scoring 5:16 into the first period with his 10th goal of the playoffs. With the Knights on the powerplay, Perry snuck out from behind the net and poked the puck past 67’s goaltender Danny Battochio.

Perry set up Danny Fritsche, who whacked a loose puck over Battochio with the 67’s down two men in the second period to bump the Knights’ lead to two.
Captain Danny Syvret thought he scored his fourth of the playoffs late in the second period when his point drive blew past Battochio’s glove hand before hitting both posts.
The play went to review, but video goal judge Jim Lever determined that the puck didn’t enter the net.
Less than a minute later, Kelly Thomson scored what proved to be the game-winner with a backhander from the edge of the crease.
Brad Staubitz put the 67’s on the board early in the third period when he blasted a point shot that eluded Knights’ goaltender Adam Dennis. Petruzalek pulled the 67’s to within one goal less than two minutes later when he finished off a three-way passing play with two Knights in the penalty box. Lukas Kaspar picked up assists on both goals.
“Losing any game is frustrating,” said Staubitz after the game. “This is a tough rink to play in, but we battled hard. They got some powerplay goals early on us, but we battled back in the third.”
Rob Schremp clinched the win with his 10th goal of the playoffs midway through the third period. He took a feed from Perry and ripped a snap shot from the face-off dot that went between Battochio’s legs.
Dennis earned his fourth straight playoff win with 41 saves, including a point-blank drive by Ottawa sniper Jakub Petruzalek midway through the second period. He also turned aside veteran Julian Talbot on the doorstep of the crease early in the third period.
“He’s playing very well right now,” said Knights’ coach Dale Hunter. “Both goalies played very well tonight and Adam stood taller.”
David Bolland picked up two assists for the Knights, who have lost just one game in the playoffs.
