OHL Coaches Poll Results
The Ontario Hockey League today announced the results of the 2002-03 Coaches Poll.
Jay McClement (pictured) of the Brampton Battalion led all OHL players with four first-place selections in the Coaches Poll, including Best on Face-offs, Best Checker, Best Defensive Forward and Best Penalty Killer. Peterborough Petes defenceman Lukas Krajicek (Best Skater, Fastest Skater and Best Offensive Defenceman) had three first-place selections and Greg Chambers (Best Shot and Hardest Shot) of the Petes and Corey Locke (Most Improved Player and Best Stickhandler) of the Ottawa 67’s each had two.
In the Western Conference, Kyle Wellwood of the Windsor Spitfires (Smartest Player, Best Playmaker and Best Stickhandler) and Chad LaRose of the Plymouth Whalers (Most Dangerous in the Goal Area, Best Shot and Best Penalty Killer) led the way with three selections each. Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds defenceman Trevor Daley was named Best Skater and Fastest Skater for the third consecutive season. Gregory Campbell (Best Checker and Best Defensive Forward) of the Kitchener Rangers also had two selections.
The OHL Coaches Poll provides team coaches with the opportunity to recognize players in several skill categories within their own conference. The top three players in each category from the Eastern and Western Conferences are recognized.
Coaches vote for each category within their conference and are not permitted to vote for players on their team. Players receive five points for a first place vote, three points for a second place vote and one point for a third place vote.
