OHL Announces Protest Decision
Toronto – The Ontario Hockey League today announced the results of its investigation into the matter of a protest as filed by the Brampton Battalion Hockey Club in regards to the game of Wednesday, January 15th, 2003. It was alleged that player Daniel Sisca of the Mississauga IceDogs Hockey Club was ineligible to play in such game by reason of an incident in a previous game which called for an automatic suspension under League policies.
After review of the Brampton Battalion protest dated the 16th of January, 2003, the position of the Mississauga IceDogs Hockey Club dated the 17th of January, 2003, and a review of League records, Commissioner David E. Branch announced that player Daniel Sisca was in fact ineligible to participate in the game of Wednesday, January 15th, 2003, and as a result, it is the position of the Ontario Hockey League that………
The victory by the Mississauga IceDogs Hockey Club in the game of Wednesday,
January 15th, 2003 shall be deleted from the IceDogs record and such game awarded
to the Brampton Battalion Hockey Club.
All scoring points accrued by Mississauga IceDogs’ players in such game shall be
stricken from the League records.
Player Daniel Sisca shall be suspended for a total of four (4)games effective
immediately.
The Mississauga IceDogs Hockey Club shall be fined $1,000.00.
“Upon a review by the League, I am persuaded that the Mississauga IceDogs Hockey Club did not use the ineligible player knowingly but rather this was an oversight with respect to the League policies and procedures,” stated OHL Commissioner David E. Branch. “However, in order to maintain the integrity of the League, the strong sanctions must be taken so as to protect the best interests of the League”.
