OHL All-Star Teams Announced
The Ontario Hockey League today announced the All-Star Teams for the 2003-04 season as selected by OHL general managers.
Corey Locke of the Ottawa 67’s won his second straight league scoring title this season and for the second year in a row was named the centre of the OHL’s First All-Star Team. He is joined by left winger Wojtek Wolski of the Brampton Battalion, the OHL’s top rated prospect for the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, and right winger Corey Perry (pictured) of the London Knights, who finished second in the OHL scoring race and received the highest number of votes (91) in the selection process.
Defencemen James Wisniewski of the Plymouth Whalers and Dennis Wideman of the London Knights and goaltender Paulo Colaiacovo of the Barrie Colts were also named to the First All-Star Team, along with coach Dale Hunter, who guided the Knights to an OHL record 110 points in the regular season.
OHL rookies Stefan Ruzicka (right wing) of the Owen Sound Attack and Patrick Ehelechner (goaltender) of the Sudbury Wolves were selected to the Second All-Star Team, along with Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds teammates Jeff Carter (centre) and Scott Dobben (left wing) and defencemen Andre Benoit of the Kitchener Rangers and Jeremy Swanson of the Barrie Colts. First year coach Greg Gilbert of the Mississauga IceDogs was also named to the Second All-Star Team.
The Guelph Storm were well represented on the Third All-Star Team by coach Shawn Camp, centre Martin St. Pierre and defenceman Kevin Klein. Knights teammates Dylan Hunter (left wing) and David Bolland (right wing) as well as Erie Otters defenceman Chris Campoli and IceDogs goaltender David Shantz rounded out the selections.
Ballots were cast by OHL member team general managers in a two stage process. Players received five points for a first place vote, three for a second place vote and one for a third place vote. Managers were not permitted to select players from their own hockey club.
