Masin and Zacha invited to Czech National Junior Team Selection Camp

Tampa Bay Lightning prospect Dominik Masin of the Peterborough Petes and New Jersey Devils first round selection Pavel Zacha of the Sarnia Sting have both been invited to the Czech Republic’s National Junior Team Selection Camp.

Masin and Zacha are two of 33 players competing for a spot on the team that will compete in the 2016 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship in Helsinki, Finland from December 26 – January 5, 2016.

Both returning players, Masin and Zacha helped the Czech Republic to a sixth place finish last year in Toronto and Montreal. 

A second round pick of the Lightning in 2014, Masin has appeared in 26 games as a sophomore with the Petes this year, recording two goals, six assists and eight points with a plus/minus rating of plus-21. The native of Mestec Kralove, Czech Republic, was Peterborough’s first round, 25th overall pick in the 2014 CHL Import Draft.

Zacha was the sixth overall pick by New Jersey in the 2015 NHL Draft and leads the Sting in scoring with 13 goals, eight assists and 21 points in 20 contests. The Brno, Czech Republic, native is in his second OHL season after recording 16 goals, 18 assists and 34 points in 37 games last season. Zacha was selected by Sarnia with the first overall pick of the 2014 CHL Import Draft.

Former OHL forward David Tomasek who played with the Belleville Bulls from 2013-15 also received an invitation to the camp.

The Czech Republic will be in Group B in the preliminary round, along with Russia, Finland, Belarus and Slovakia. Group A will consist of the United States, Canada, Sweden, Switzerland and Denmark.

The Czech Republic kicks off their tournament schedule on December 26th against Russia.
