Colts Take Game One on the Road
The Barrie Colts won game one of the Rogers OHL Championship 4-2 over the defending champion London Knights. It marks just the second time the Knights have lost on home ice during these playoffs and the first time it’s been done during regulation.
After a scoreless first in which both goalies made numerous big saves the Knights’ captain, Scott Harrington sprung Ryan Rupert on a break-away. Rupert fought off the Colts defender and slid the puck between Niederberger’s legs making it 1-0. Former Knight Andreas Athanasiou responded minutes later for the Colts jumping on a loose puck in the slot to even things at 1-1. Anthony Camara put the Colts up for good later in the second. Alex Yuill made a great pass from behind the net to a wide open Camara beating Anthony Stolarz to end the second 2-1.
The Colts came out fast in the third. Rookie Brendan Lemieux scored his second of the playoffs, a power play goal just a 1:24 into the third. Alex Broadhurst pulled the Knights to within one on a power play goal of his own. But, Mark Scheifele iced it with an empty netter with 42 seconds remaining.
Niederberger made 42 saves for the win including two big glove saves late in the third and Stolarz stopped 24 in the loss.
Game two of the series is on Sunday in London at 7:00pm. Highlights Post Game
