Canada Drops U-18 Decision to Czech
Piestany, Slovakia- Canada’s National Under 18 Team’s record fell to 2-2-0 at the 2002 IIHF World Under 18 Hockey Championship, with a 4-1 loss to the Czech Republic on Monday, in Piestany, Slovakia.
Canada got the start it wanted as Dylan Stanley, of Edmonton, AB, opened the scoring at 1:55 of the opening period, silencing a very pro-Czech Republic crowd. Both teams had some good chances but Canada held on to the lead going into the dressing room.
The intensity picked up in the second period as both teams looked to play more pf a physical game. Canada failed on a couple great scoring chances and late in the period, the Czechs evened the score as the team’s captain Milan Michalek placed a one-timer past Maxime Daigneault.
The third period was all Czech Republic as they took the lead at the 20 second mark, as Ondrej Nemec scored, and they never looked back. Michal Barinka and Jiri Hudler added singles as the Czech Republic wins 4-1 over Canada.
Canada’s next game comes on Wednesday, April 17th as they face Norway to close out the round robin.
