Brad Boyes
Erie Otters all-star centre Brad Boyes won the top scorer and most valuable player awards at the 1998 Ontario Bantam Championships in Thunder Bay, where he led the Mississauga Reps to the silver medal.
Mississauga cruised through the round-robin portion of the tournament posting an undefeated 5-0-1 record.
Boyes, who scored 27 goals and 36 assists in 60 games with the Reps during the 1997-98 season, was a good example of a player who improved as the season went on.
“He was very good during the first half of the season,” stated Toronto St. Michael’s Majors chief scout Jack Ferguson, who was the Director of OHL Central Scouting at the time.
“He kept getting better and better as the season progressed, but the (Ontario Bantam Championship) tournament and the MTHL finals put him over the top.”
Boyes, a Mississauga native, participated in the 2000 OHL All-Star Game at the Hershey Centre in January.
Otters teammate Adam Munro was a member of the Brantford Bandits who lost to Mississauga 6-1 in the tournament opener.
