Known as a team that has typically had a well-established presence behind the bench being led by such names as Dale Hawerchuk (2010-19), Bert Templeton (1995-99) and Marty Williamson (2004-10, 2021-present) on two separate occasions, the Colts are usually in the thick of things in the Central Division. The franchise’s lone championship came in 2000 with coach Bill Stewart leading a group that included Sheldon Keefe, Denis Shvidki and star goaltender Brian Finley to a J. Ross Robertson Cup title. The Colts have had a few close calls since, winning Eastern Conference titles in 2002, 2010 and 2013, with their last trip to the OHL Championship Series ending in the dying seconds of Game 7. The Colts continue to develop NHL talent, with at least one player selected at the NHL Draft in the last seven consecutive years.
Located north of Toronto on Highway 400, the Colts have managed to attract and develop several high profile NHL prospects over the years, having notable success through the CHL Import Draft. Colts players pursue a high school education through Innisdale Secondary School, with many billeting within Barrie and in nearby communities such as Minesing.
