World U-17 Hockey Challenge: Day 5 Recap – Canadian Teams Set to Square Off for Gold Medal
Canada White vs. USA
Final/OT: 8 (CAN) – 7 (USA)
In a dramatic, high-scoring semifinal showdown between rivals, Canada White outlasted the United States in overtime to punch their ticket to the gold medal game.
Canada White jumped out to a 2–0 lead midway through the first period, with Sam Roberts (Oshawa Generals) setting up Aleks Kulemin (Kingston Frontenacs) for the opening goal. Kaden McGregor (Peterborough Petes) then doubled the advantage, assisted by Jaakko Wycisk (Guelph Storm).
The Americans battled back to tie the game early in the second. Still, just seconds later, Roberts, picking up his second assist of the night, and Kulemin, earning his second point, set up Ben Harvey, who restored the Canadian lead. A flurry of goals followed, with three scored in under two minutes.
The U.S. surged ahead briefly before Roberts added his own goal to tie things up, assisted by Kulemin, who registered his third point of the game. However, the Americans would strike again late in the frame to take a one-goal lead into the intermission.
In the third period, the teams continued to trade goals. Matt Henderson (Kingston Frontenacs) notched an assist before capitalizing on a setup from Brock Chitaroni (Ottawa 67’s) and Brenner Lammens (Sarnia Sting) to tie the game once more. The U.S. quickly answered, regaining the lead just 15 seconds later.
With time winding down, Cooper McAslan (London Knights) found Lammens, who buried the equalizer to make it 7–7 and send the game to sudden-victory overtime.
Less than five minutes into the extra frame, Liam Pue played hero – scoring the overtime winner to lift Canada White to a thrilling 8–7 victory.
