World U-17 Hockey Challenge: Day 3 Recap – Canada Red Falls in Eight Round Shootout

Canada Red forced overtime with a late third-period goal but ultimately fell short in the shootout, dropping their record to 1-0-0-1. 

Charlie Murata (Flint Firebirds) tallied two points (1G, 1A), while Cam Warren (North Bay Battalion) netted the dramatic game-tying goal with just 45 seconds left in regulation.

For Team USA (0-2-0-0), Carter Meyer (2G, 2A) and Brayden Willis (1G, 3A) powered the offense with four points each.

The tightly contested matchup remained deadlocked through overtime, sending the game to a shootout. Murata extended Canada’s hopes with a third-round marker, but that would be their lone conversion. In the eighth round, Freddie Schneider scored for the U.S., leaving Ryerson Edgar (Niagara IceDogs) with the last chance to respond. His attempt was turned aside by goaltender Eli Winters, sealing the American victory and halting the comeback for the Canadiens. 

Despite the loss, Canada outshot the U.S. by a wide margin, 51–31.

Both Canadian squads now shift focus to tomorrow’s quarterfinals:

• Canada Red vs. Sweden – 7:30 PM AST
