Wolves graduate Zacharie Giroux commits to University of Ottawa
The University of Ottawa Gee-Gees men’s hockey program announced Tuesday that Sudbury Wolves graduate Zacharie Giroux has committed for the 2024-25 season.
A 21-year-old from Sudbury, Ont., Giroux completed a four-year OHL career this past season, splitting the 2023-24 campaign between the Wolves and Flint Firebirds to produce 20 goals, 35 assists and 55 points over 61 games. The 5-foot-6, 162Ib. left-winger accumulated 56 goals, 103 assists and 159 points over 193 career regular season games, adding 21 points (10-11–21) over 35 career OHL playoff games.
Giroux, whose older brother Damian played in the league for the Saginaw Spirit, was originally a third round pick of the Flint Firebirds in the 2019 OHL Priority Selection. He was Flint’s captain when acquired by Sudbury on Jan. 9, 2024 in exchange for a pair of third round picks in 2026.
Giroux heads to Ottawa where he’ll join other OHL grads in Mitchell Martin (Kitchener), Brad Chenier (Sudbury), Peter Stratis (Sarnia), Grayson Ladd (North Bay), Jacob LeGuerrier (Sault Ste. Marie), Max Grondin (Peterborough) and Danyk Drouin (Oshawa).
We are very proud to welcome Zach Giroux to the Gee-Gees family! 🤝
Giroux’s @OHLHockey career spanned over four seasons, including serving as captain in Flint last season before being traded to his hometown @Sudbury_Wolves
