Wednesday Highlights: Suzuki shines in Attack victory

Draft eligible sophomore Nick Suzuki (7, 8) scored twice and added three assists as the Owen Sound Attack doubled up the visiting Barrie Colts 8-4. Suzuki, Maksim Sushko (7), Daylon Groulx (1) and Kevin Hancock (5) led a first period onslaught as the Attack took a 5-2 lead after 20 minutes. Matthew Struthers (2), Matt Schmalz (1), Sushko (8) and Suzuki also found the back of the net as the Attack put up eight goals for their ninth win of the season. Barrie goals came from Giordano Finoro (2), Kirill Nizhnikov (3), Anthony Stefano (8) and Lucas Chiodo (5) as the Colts fell to 6-8-2-0. Owen Sound defenceman Jacob Friend recorded two assists, finishing the night with a plus/minus rating of plus-6.

Chicago Blackhawks prospect Alex DeBrincat scored 2:07 into overtime as the Erie Otters defeated the visiting Guelph Storm 5-4. DeBrincat (13, 14) scored twice in the School Day Game while Christian Girhiny (4), Kyle Maksimovich (2) and Taylor Raddysh (12) also scored. The Storm surged back after falling behind 3-0 as Dmitri Samorukov (1), Isaac Ratcliffe (7) and Albert Michnac (5) scored second period goals. Nate Schnarr (8) scored midway through the third period to knot the score at four and help the Storm earn a point. Guelph’s Liam Herbst made 39 saves in the overtime loss. The Otters have now won 10 of their last 11 contests, improving to 11-3-1-0 to lead the Midwest Division.

St. Louis Blues prospect Jordan Kyrou (5) had a goal and two assists as the Sarnia Sting defeated the visiting Kitchener Rangers 5-3. Brady Hinz (3), Franco Sproviero (3), Nikita Korostelev (13) and Adam Ruzicka (4) also scored for Sarnia. The Sting improve to 10-5-1-0, good for a first place tie with Sault Ste. Marie in the West Division. The Rangers were outshot 36-28 in the loss, getting goals from Greg Meireles (5), Joseph Garreffa (4) and Darby Llewellyn (5). The Rangers see their four game winning streak come to an end as they fall to 10-5-1-0.
