Wednesday Highlights: Solved in a shootout
FLINT 5 – SAULT STE. MARIE 4 – SO
The Flint Firebirds overcame a 4-1 deficit in the last half of the third period, scoring three times to force overtime before taking two points in a 5-4 shootout win on the road. Dallas Stars prospect Nicholas Caamano (19) scored the tying goal with under five minutes to go and also netted the shootout winner as the Firebirds stunned the OHL’s top-ranked Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds. Flint outshot Sault Ste. Marie 43-29, including a tally of 19-8 over the third period and overtime. Kole Sherwood (23), Ryan Moore (23) and Jake Durham (5) also scored for Flint while David Miller (17, 18), Colton White (4) and Blake Speers (3) responded for the Hounds. Sault Ste. Marie drops to 11-6-2-1 on home ice this season but remains two points ahead of London for top spot in the league. Flint’s victory pushes them nine points ahead of ninth place Saginaw in the Western Conference.

SARNIA 3 – LONDON 2 – SO
Sarnia goaltender Justin Fazio won his first game since December 17th and did so in a big way, turning away 43 shots before stopping all three shootout attempts that came his way in a 3-2 Sting road win over London. Sarnia broke a string of eight straight losses in London, winning at Budweiser Gardens for the first time since February 7, 2013 as Drake Rymsha netted the shootout winner. Troy Lajeunesse (14) and Franco Sproviero (6) had goals for the Sting while Max Jones (13) and Janne Kuokkanen (18) struck for the Knights. London goaltender Tyler Parsons made 30 saves in the loss as the Knights fall to 0-5 over their last five shootouts dating back to Sept. 26, 2015. London remains two points back of the Soo Greyhounds in the Western Conference, who also suffered a shootout loss on Wednesday.
