Wednesday Highlights: Midweek wins for Firebirds, Steelheads
FLINT 6, SAGINAW 4
– Six different goal-scorers found the back of the net for Flint as the Firebirds evened their season series with rival Saginaw.
– Brennan Othmann became the OHL’s fourth 20-goal scorer, striking shorthanded late in the second period to put the ‘Birds ahead for good.
– Riley Piercey scored in a seventh straight game, finding his 11th goal of the season.
– Blueliner Zack Terry provided the game winner with 3:11 remaining in the third period.
– Saginaw forward Dean Loukus earned first star honours with a goal and two assists.
– Flint outshot Saginaw 35-27.
– Luke Cavallin returned to the Flint crease for the first time since Nov. 27th, making 23 saves for the win.
– The Firebirds improve to 13-10-0-1 and sit two points back of first place Sault Ste. Marie in the West Division.
– Saginaw falls to 11-12-1-0.

MISSISSAUGA 4, HAMILTON 1
– James Hardie scored his 17th and 18th goals of the season as the Steelheads climbed to within one point of Central Division-leading North Bay.
– Rookies Zakary Lavoie and Owen Beck each recorded two assists.
– Logan Morrison opened the scoring 50 seconds into the first period for Hamilton, and that’s all the offence the Bulldogs could muster.
– Joe Ranger stopped 22 of 23 to earn the win for Mississauga.
– The Steelheads improve to 16-7-1-1.
– The Bulldogs fall to 15-8-2-2 and are three points behind first place Kingston in the East Division.
– Hamilton was without Montreal Canadiens prospect Jan Mysak, who will represent the Czech Republic at the 2022 World Juniors.
– Braeden O’Keefe made his OHL debut for the Bulldogs, wearing #81.
