U SPORTS Report: Nov. 1, 2023
A total of 228 OHL alumni are playing in the U SPORTS men’s hockey ranks this season. Throughout the year the U SPORTS Report will keep tabs on former OHL names doing great things in the OUA, AUS and Canada West ranks on the road to the 2024 U SPORTS University Cup to be held from March 14-17 in Toronto, Ont.

SPIRIT GRADUATE BRADY GILMOUR REACHES 100 GAME MILESTONE
UNB Assistant Captain Brady Gilmour reached a special milestone on Saturday, skating in his 100th game with the Reds. Recording nearly a point per game across four seasons, the Saginaw Spirit graduate has recorded 26 goals, 69 assists, and 95 points over 100 matchups with UNB. The Grafton, Ont. native has won three AUS Championships and a National Championship with the Reds, as he looks to defend UNB’s winning title in his final U SPORTS season. Selected by the Spirit sixth overall in the 2015 OHL Priority Selection, Gilmour played four seasons in Saginaw, recording 134 points (57-77-134) over 231 games played.
Sitting atop the AUS standings with an 8-0 record, UNB continued their winning ways over the weekend, defeating the Acadia Axemen and Saint Mary’s Huskies in back-to-back victories.

STFX, CARLETON, AND ONTARIO TECH FIND SUCCESS
StFX X-Men
StFX was off to a hot start on Wednesday, as a six-goal effort in the second period helped power the X-Men to an impressive 8-1 win over the Dalhousie Tigers. Mississauga Steelheads graduate Charlie Callaghan and Soo Greyhounds alumnus Zack Trott each found the back of the net, while former Barrie Colts centreman Josh Nelson recorded a pair of helpers to earn first star honours.
The X-Men continued to find success on Saturday, mounting a third period comeback to defeat the UPEI Panthers 3-1. Nelson would net one of StFX’s three markers, while former London Knights netminder Joseph Raaymakers stopped 22 of the 23 shots he faced for the win.
Carleton Ravens
The Carleton Ravens earned their fourth win of the season on Friday, defeating the Western Mustangs 5-2. The win saw a pair of assists from Flint Firebirds alumnus James Mayotte. The Ravens were back in action on Saturday night, closing out their perfect weekend with a 7-2 victory over the Windsor Lancers. Former Ottawa 67’s forward Alex Johnston led Carleton to victory with a goal and an assist, while Owen Sound Attack alumnus Nolan Seed, Niagara IceDogs graduate Oliver Castleman, and Mayotte all contributed a helper to the win. The Ravens now sit at 10th on the U SPORTS rankings, and second in the OUA East standings.

Ontario Tech Ridgebacks
The Ontario Tech Ridgebacks saw some stellar performances over the weekend, starting with a 7-2 win over the York Lions. Soo Greyhounds graduate Cullen McLean contributed a pair of helpers, while former Sarnia Sting blueliner Marko Jakovljevic also added an assist to the win. The Ridgebacks would clinch their second win of the weekend on Saturday with a 3-1 win over the Waterloo Warriors.
