U SPORTS Report: Mar. 12, 2025
A total of 195 OHL alumni are playing in the U SPORTS men’s hockey ranks this season. Throughout the year the U SPORTS Report will keep tabs on former OHL names doing great things in the OUA, AUS and Canada West ranks on the road to the 2025 U SPORTS University Cup to be held from March 20-23 in Ottawa, Ont.
UNB WINS SEVENTH STRAIGHT AUS TITLE
The University of New Brunswick men’s hockey program claimed their seventh consecutive AUS title on Tuesday night, earning their spot in the 2025 U Cup. The Reds took the best-of-three series against Moncton, starting strong with a 5-3 win in Game 1 on Sunday. Cole McKay (Soo Greyhounds), Sean McGurn (London), and Emmett Sproule (Peterborough Petes) each scored in the victory. UNB sealed the title with a 3-2 win on Tuesday, with Sproule contributing a pair of assists. The reigning national champions now aim for their third straight U SPORTS title in Ottawa next week.

TMU AND CONCORDIA TO FACE OFF IN OUA FINAL
Toronto Metropolitan University will take on Concordia in the Queen’s Cup Championship on Saturday, with the winner crowned OUA champions. By reaching the final, the TMU Bold have secured their spot at Nationals for the third time in four years.
The Bold advanced after defeating the University of Toronto 2-1 in a best-of-three series. U of T claimed Game 1 with Owen Robinson (Sudbury Wolves) scoring twice, including the game-winner in a 3-2 victory. TMU responded with a 5-4 win in Game 2, with Will Portokalis (Owen Sound Attack) netting the winner. The Bold sealed the series with a 3-2 win on Sunday, as Evan Brand (Mississauga Steelheads) added an assist in the victory.
