Tuesday Highlights: Mascherin makes the difference
KITCHENER 4 – NIAGARA 3 – OT
Florida Panthers prospect Adam Mascherin (32) charged through the neutral zone, ripping a hard shot past Niagara’s Colton Incze 3:21 into overtime as the Kitchener Rangers defeated the visiting Niagara IceDogs 4-3. The Rangers snap a four game slide despite allowing a 3-1 lead to slip away. Third period goals from Liam Ham (2) and Johnny Corneil (23) allowed the IceDogs to knot the score at three and earn a point by forcing overtime. Dylan Di Perna (6), Darby Llewellyn (16) and Greg Meireles (13) also scored for the Blueshirts while St. Louis Blues prospect Luke Opilka made 31 saves. Incze made 32 saves for the IceDogs at the other end as Joshua Dame (2) also scored for Niagara. The Rangers improve to 28-20-2-2, four points ahead of seventh place Sarnia in the Western Conference. Llewellyn played in his 287th career OHL contest, passing Richard Borgo (1986-91) for second on the Rangers’ all-time list behind Andre Benoit (324, 2000-05).
