Three Stars: October 20, 2018
1ST STAR: KEEGHAN HOWDESHELL (SAULT STE. MARIE GREYHOUNDS):
Overage forward Keeghan Howdeshell‘s first OHL hat-trick was all natural, powering the Soo Greyhounds past the visiting Hamilton Bulldogs 4-3 in a rematch of last year’s Rogers OHL Championship Series. Howdeshell’s big night was headlined by a highlight reel lacrosse-style goal as the Brighton, Mich. native guided the Greyhounds to their fifth win in the last six games. Howdeshell had eight shots on goal and brings his season point total to nine (7-2–9) in 13 games. The second-year winger attended training camp with the Arizona Coyotes last month.
2ND STAR: UKKO-PEKKA LUUKKONEN (SUDBURY WOLVES):
Finnish netminder Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen recorded his first career OHL shutout on Saturday, turning aside all 29 shots he faced in a 2-0 win over the Kingston Frontenacs. The Buffalo Sabres prospect helped the Wolves win their eighth game of the season behind first period goals from Macauley Carson and David Levin. Luukkonen holds a 6-2 record with a 2.39 goals-against average and a .928 save percentage over eight appearances.
3RD STAR: CONNOR McMICHAEL (LONDON KNIGHTS):
2019 NHL Draft prospect Connor McMichael shone on the big stage, scoring twice to lead the London Knights to a 6-2 win over visiting Kitchener on the Sportsnet CHL Saturday Showcase. McMichael scored shorthanded with four minutes to go in the second period before putting the Knights up 6-2 in the opening half of the third. The 17-year-old from Ajax, Ont. has 11 points (9-2–11) through 10 games this season. He was originally Hamilton’s first round pick in 2017 before being acquired by London.
